5th-Grade Band is a continuation of 4th-Grade Band. Students meet twice per week; once in their weekly lesson group (during the school day) and once as a full ensemble (before school, 8:00am rehearsal). 5th-Grade Band still focuses on students learning how to play their specific instrument, but also teaches students how to play as an ensemble.
Band in the 5th-grade meets once per week for 45 minutes in a large group lesson format, and once per week for a full band rehearsal before school. The focus of 5th-grade band is to develop tonal, technical and ensemble fundamentals that may be transferred to a sixth grade band experience.
Alcott - Lessons on Fridays at either 9:00 or 9:45 and rehearsal on Tuesdays at 8:00
Thoreau - Lessons on Mondays at either 9:00 or 9:45 and rehearsal on Thursdays at 8:00
Willard - Lessons on Fridays at either 11:00 or 11:45 and rehearsal on Wednesdays at 8:00
Students who do not elect to participate in the band program in 5th-grade will need special permission to join the band at a later date, typically contingent upon pursuing additional lessons outside the school day to prepare.
All instruments are offered in the 5th-grade (some requiring proper preparation beforehand). The fifth grade band performs an "Informance" in the winter, as well as at the Spring Elementary All-Town Band Concert (see CALENDAR).
