Elementary Honor Band is an audition-based ensemble for all 4th and 5th-grade students who are dedicated in pursuing an additional performance opportunity outside their weekly scheduled commitment. Members who are accepted participate in rehearsals to perform at our annual Spring concert.
To earn a seat in the Honor Band, students will be asked to participate in a check-off system to demonstrate their ability to perform the dedicated concert songs. When the entirety of required materials has been checked-off the student will be invited to participate in the ensemble. The check-off system will allow students to prepare their Honor music at their own pace, permitting each student with an adequate amount of time to complete the check-off process before the deadline. To support students outside the classroom, additional practice materials and resources will be provided when the audition cycle opens.
5th-grade Mallet percussionists who audition are given a special opportunity to transition to additional percussive instruments (i.e. drums, cymbals, auxiliary) based on the quality of their audition. 4th-grade Mallet percussionists will be asked to remain on Bells.
Check-offs can be completed in one of two ways:
Audition cycles open in late January with a deadline at the beginning of May. Rehearsals are located at Sanborn Middle School Band room. Dates and times will be provided at the beginning of each audition cycle.
*Acceptance into the group is contingent on learning the repertoire ahead of time and attending ALL preparatory rehearsals. While we would like to invite all students who audition into Honor Band; unfortunately, not all students will be accepted based on their scores. If your child is not accepted and is interested in resubmitting their audition videos opportunity will be granted to that child as long as their submission is in advance of our first preparatory rehearsal.

- (Most preferred) Send a video of your child performing each song (in its entirety or small portions) to jeisenman@concordps.org
- *Video submissions can be broken down into smaller “chunks” rather than one long video submission.
- (Please keep video submissions under four “takes” per song). Failure to do so may lead to students not being accepted.

- (Least preferred) During band, students can be pulled out to complete a “check-off” (in its entirety or small portions).
